OPTIWISE at the Wind Assistance Workshop
As part of Waterborne Days 2025, OPTIWISE EU was prominently featured in the Wind Assistance Workshop.
On Wednesday, February 5, Tom van Terwisga presented the groundbreaking work of OPTIWISE, showcasing the latest advancements in wind propulsion technology and its real-world applications across three key use cases.
He started by exploring the rise and fall of wind-propelled tea clippers in the mid-19th century, demonstrating that 100% fuel savings are achievable when there is sufficient flexibility in the logistical chain.
Tom also highlighted successful modern vessels that have recently set sail using Wind Propulsion Systems from two of our partners. To conclude, he emphasized the added value of OPTIWISE, culminating in the development of three demonstrators, each equipped with a Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion system, optimized for specific trade routes.
